Måneskin Takes Manhattan

It is December 2nd and the streets of New York City are alive, chilly, and busy with commuters. I am not on my way to the office. Instead, I’m scoping out the situation at Hammerstein Ballroom as Måneskin is set to perform the first of two shows on their Loud Kids Tour.

Måneskin, meaning moonlight in Danish, is an Italian rock band that has been putting out music since 2017. They have released 2 studio albums and have one on the way. In 2021 they gained global recognition when they won Eurovision, an international song competition, with their tune “Zitti Buoni”. Since then they have taken the world by storm with their awesome rock music, style, and authentic selves. The band is made up of four talented artists: singer-songwriter Damiano David, bass player Victoria De Angelis, Ethan Torchio on drums, and guitarist Thomas Raggi.

As I turn onto 34th street I can already see a line of about 40 fans with blankets and heat tarps laying on the ground. Making themselves as cozy as possible as it’s only 9:00 am and the doors won’t open until 7:00 pm. Those in the front of the line try to keep some semblance of order by marking arriving fans with a number - A way to show proof of position in anticipation of line cutters. While we wait some share they arrived to the venue at 1:30 am Friday and had tickets for the Saturday night gig as well. So, back to the line they would go once this show was over.

At the moment the lights dim, the already energized crowd becomes electric as the band takes the stage. It is a sold-out show with fans of all ages scattered throughout. Going to show you music truly brings us all together. The excitement is palpable. Måneskin plays all their hits plus more. The show lasts nearly two hours, with high-energy songs and slowed-down ballads Damianos’ vocals are flawless. Thomas kills it on the guitar with his sick licks and insane solos, highlighting how talented this band is. The comfort Maneskin has with their fans is undeniable, as they crowd surf, walk their way through the venue, and bring fans on stage. It is an incredible night of music, reminding us all that rock will never die, it is here to stay and Måneskin is continuing to pave the way.
